Elysian Ruin Rosemary Agave IPA in Vancouver BC

The clock just keeps on ticking and time is running out people! The world is coming to an end in December 2012, which means were not too far away from judgment day.  Luckily for us beer geeks, our friends at Elysian are brewing up some really experimental beers to prepare us for the end.  Well, the 5th installment of the “12 Beers of the Apocalypse” series is now available in Vancouver, but it won’t be around for long.  So make sure you go out to your favorite private liquor store, and grab the Elysian Ruin Rosemary Agave IPA.

The Elysian Rosmary Agave IPA is brewed with fresh rosemary in the mash, Agave nectar and Amarillo hops in the boil, and lemon peel in the finish.  It’s 7.3% ABV and 70 IBUS, but this is one drinkable brew.  It’s the perfect beer for summer if you think life is too short to spend on lagers and wheat beers.

The Ruin IPA is hazy and deep gold in colour, and it has a sweet, slightly fruity, floral, herbal aroma.  As you take a sip, you definitely get sweet Agave and lemon zest on the palate, and a slightly spicy, piney, herbal finish. You get a bit of bitterness on the aftertaste, as well some lingering lemon peels.  It’s medium bodied, and you’ll be happy that you tried this beer before the world comes to an end.

The Elysian Ruin IPA is a great addition to the 12 Beers of the Apocalypse series, but if you want it, you gotta hurry up because it’s selling fast. It’s available in select liquor stores around Vancouver, and it’s on draft at St. Augustine’s, Alibi Room, and Rogue Wetbar.  And remember, the end is beer.

Cheers!
